Rotary Peace Poles

Our first Peace Pole at Lorikeet Park in Mount Ommaney celebrated our multicultural community and our common wish for a world at peace.

The official unveiling on the 24th of April 2021 included face painting and the local community joining the Peace Crane Project, marking this important date and joining hands to create a more peaceful world.

Saturday the 1st of November, 2025, marked the dedication of the second Rotary Peace Pole at the beautiful Community Garden at Ambiwerra, St Aidan’s School.

The Peace Pole movement began in Japan in 1955, and since then, more than 200,000 poles have been installed worldwide across 180 countries.

The Peace Pole has become an enduring symbol of our shared hope for a world at peace. Peace Poles unite people of different cultures, faiths and ideals, celebrating our common humanity while encouraging understanding, respect and peacebuilding within communities.

As one of Rotary's seven Areas of Focus, peacebuilding lies at the heart of this initiative. Through projects such as this, Rotary seeks to foster goodwill, strengthen communities and inspire future generations to embrace the ideal of Service Above Self.

Australia is one of the most multicultural societies on earth, comprising people from every corner of the globe. With diversity as one of our greatest strengths, we are all Australians. We are at our best when we are inclusive and when we respect each other.

The Ambiwerra Community Garden and Peace Pole are wonderful examples of harmony in action. The Peace Pole has a most fitting location—a place where children from many backgrounds come together to learn, grow and interact with people from many nations. It stands as a daily reminder of the values of kindness, inclusion and respect that strengthen our communities.

The Peace Pole was also dedicated to recognise, celebrate and honour the 40-year partnership between the Jindalee Rotary Club and St Aidan’s Interact Club, established in November 1985. This enduring partnership reflects Rotary's commitment to empowering young people through service, leadership and meaningful community connections.

A Peace Pole is an internationally recognised symbol of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family, bearing the message May Peace Prevail on Earth in five languages: English, French, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Nepali. Through these languages, we echo a single call for harmony that transcends boundaries.

Together, we reaffirm our shared commitment to building a more peaceful, inclusive and compassionate world through friendship, service and community partnership.
